Description:
hkcmd.exe (Intel's Hotkey Command Module) is installed alongside Intel multimedia devices and allows configuration and diagnostic options for these devices.
Intel's Hotkey Command Module which gets installed by the drivers for onboard VGA cards based on the Intel 81x graphics chipset and which enables you to configure keyboard hotkeys (shortcuts) so that you can access specific programs at the touch of a function key (e.g. Email, Word, Excel, etc...).

This program is non-essential process to the running of the system, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

Note: General rule
Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a non-Microsoft.exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection!

The hkcmd.exe file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder, though. In other cases, hkcmd.exe maybe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!


Recommendation for hkcmd.exe:
Should not be disabled, required for essential applications to work properly.
But, if you don't use the hotkey facility that it supports, you could disable it. In this case, you should disable also IGFXTRAY.EXE process.
